Bull Sperm In Energy Drink?

Taurine has been one of the ingredient in energy Drinks. What is Taurine? Wikipedia defines  Taurine, or 2-aminoethanesulfonic acid, is an organic acid widely distributed in animal tissues. It is a major constituent of bile and can be found in the large intestine and accounts for approximately 0.1% of total human body weight.[1] Taurine has many fundamental biological roles such as conjugation of bile acidsantioxidationosmoregulationmembrane stabilization and modulation of calcium signaling. It is essential for cardiovascularfunction, and development and function of skeletal muscle, the retina and the central nervous system. Taurine is unusual among biological molecules in being a sulfonic acid, while the vast majority of biologically occurring acids contain the more weakly acidic carboxyl group. While taurine is sometimes called an amino acid, and indeed is an acid containing an amino group, it is not an amino acid in the usual biochemical meaning of the term, which refers to compounds containing both an amino and a carboxyl group.

Taurine is essential for cardiovascular function, and development and function of skeletal muscle, the retina and central nervous system.

Energy Drinks Contain Ingredient Extracted From Bull Urine And Semen. That was a sentence found on one article from dailybuzz. A study done by Longhorn Cattle Company, tested some of the top energy drink brands such as Red Bull, monster etc. What they found might leave your stomach in a knot. They found that the drinks do, in fact, contain bull semen. How far is it true?

An article in Mayo Clinic mentions  "Some studies suggest that taurine supplementation may improve athletic performance, which may explain why taurine is used in many energy drinks.

Taurine is the ingredient that has come under fire. Taurine is named after the Latin Taurus, which means bull. It was first isolated from ox bile in 1827 by Australian scientists Friedrich Tiedemann and Leopold Gmelon. It is often called an amino acid, even in scientific literature, but it lacks a carboxyl group it is not strictly an amino acid. Taurine is present in bulls livers, semen and urine. One thing is certain, the taurine used in energy drinks such as Red Bull is taken from these sources.
