The Olympic Dream

It has long been a dream for Malaysia to achieve an Olympic Gold since our first participation in 1956. In almost every Olympics we have been sending our athletes to participate besides fulfilling the objective of the sports that is to foster goodwill as what the father of the modern Olympic says;

The most important thing in the Olympic is not to win but to take part, just as the most important things in life is not triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is to have fought well Pierre de Coubertain

Since then we had made some achievements and some of our athletes did fought well and qualified for the semi finals, e.g. Ishtiaq Mubarrak in Mexico. Then our badminton boys bring home silvers and bronze after a taekwondo exponent did in in Korea but that was just a demonstration sport.

Our Olympic dreams has not fade out. We still put in our effort and struggle to bring home the medal and lots of money has been put forward to achieve the dream.

The latest development is the setting up of a committee and spearheaded by none other than the Minister of Youth of Sports herself. The comitte will see preparation of our contingent to the Beijing 2008 Olympics in China. The function of the committee is to monitor athletes preparation in terms of training, nutrition and application of sports science

Datuk Seri Azalina said, ‘‘Saya sendiri akan mempengerusikan jawatankuasa ini dan akan dibantu oleh para pegawai dari Majlis Olimpik Malaysia (MOM), Majlis Sukan Negara (MSN), Institut Sukan Negara (ISN). This comittee will be assisted by a board whose members will be announced later.

Among members of the comitte are Datuk Zolkeples Embong, DG of National Sports Council, Datuk Dr. Ramlan Abdul Aziz, DG, National Institute of Sports and the Chef de Mission to Beijing, Datuk Ho Koh Chye.

Our sportsmen did well in the previously concluded Sea Games in Korat and lets hope that will boost their motivation to achieve more than being a regional hero. Just wipe out the jaguh kampung image.
