Congratulation to Amirul Ibrahim Hamizan for breaking the Malaysian Medal Tally with his first Gold in the 56kg Men's weightlifting at the XIXth Commonwealth Games in India. With that first Gold Amirul had refunded the taxpayers and now leaves other athletes who are at New Delhi to justify themselves because they are carrying the Jalur Gemilang and keeping all Malaysians the hope of winning. Even though not everybody can win but at least showing a decent performance to payback what the country had given them during their tenure on the training field all these years.
At the Games, the 28 year old Amirul also improved his own games record of 115kg in the snatch, set during the Manchester Games in 2002. In New Delhi he lifted 116kg but failed at 118kg in the final lift.
Meanwhile Zaira Zakaria another medal hopeful, failed to achieve her first medal at the Games when she failed to clear the 93kg lift after delivering the 75kg on her third attempt.
Her total weight lifted was tied with India's Sandhiya Rani Devi but due to the latter's lighter body weight of 47.73kg compared to Zaira's 47.94kg. So, Zaira missed her Bronze medal because of he heavier body weight. Did you learn something about winning in the weight category events?
