Profesionalism In Sports

There's a topic Profesinalisme Dalam Sukan in the Kursus Pengurusan Sukan Kebangsaan Curriculum (KPSK) organised by National Sports Council.

In relation to the topic, I found this Azraai Khor's post on Facebook

He was talking about professionalism among local players. Who should shoulder the responsibility to educate our players who are all mostly youngsters.

Majority of them started playing in the local league as soon as they left school and sad to say that many have poor education background.

As what Azraai Khor mentioned in his posting, these players do not have  the skill to manage their income during the time they are attached with a team. They might not have Plan B with their income to save for the rainy days.

Sports is a risky activity and athletes who earn a living through sports can have their income jeapordised anytime. Injury and decreasing of skill is the worst enemy.

When I was lecturing about training under the National Coaching Accreditation Scheme's (SPKK) Sports Science, I always tell the coaches who attended the course that "Injury is the begining of the end of an athlete's career" relating to how many once a talented player and hopeful athlete had to give up sports due to injury.

What Azraai Khor mention in his post is all true.

YAKEB For Ex National Athletes

Ex National athletes are heroes, some left unsung, and they had committed their time, energy, work and families just to keep the Jalur Gemilang flying high. We praise them when they win and most sent curses if they loose and did not live up to our expectations. Whether they win or not they had already contributed to the country at all levels of competitions and need to be compenstated in whatever way we can and one area is their charity when they retire or forced to retire while still on the playing field.

Those Malaysians who had dedicated their time and energy to the country on the sports arena are not left out when it comes to their charity. There is the Yayasan Kebajikan Atlet (YAKEB) to take care of them after they retired or about to retire from active participation as national athletes.

I post this to help spread out the news that our ex nationals are taken care of, after I receive my daughters membership from YAKEB recently.

Rape Case Tarnishes SUKMA's Success

I witness the Sukan Malaysia XVI Kuala Lumpur 2013 closing ceremony at NSC Mini Stadium in Bukit Jalil and the closing speech by Youth and Sports Minister, YB Khairy Jamaluddin did surprise the audience. Sukan Malaysia XVI proceeded smoothly and the efficiency of NSC's Officer and personnel tasked to their respective duties should be commended.

It was a black spot during the SUKMA and had been handed over to the police to take further action. YB KJ did not mention what happen but today I happen to read it on Facebook. The article (copied below)was in Bahasa Malaysia and I leave it as it is.
